For authors

Prepare a clean, review-ready manuscript.

These instructions are designed for a double-anonymous review process managed initially through the journal’s editorial email.

Files required at initial submission

1. Cover letter

Originality, article type, journal fit, approval by all authors, funding, conflicts, AI use, and related submissions.

2. Title page

Authors, degrees, affiliations, ORCID iDs, corresponding author, funding, competing interests, CRediT contributions, acknowledgements and study registration.

3. Anonymous main manuscript

No author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, identifying acknowledgements or unnecessary institutional identifiers.

4. Conflict of interest disclosure

Financial and non-financial relationships relevant to the submitted work.

5. Ethics documentation

Ethics approval or formal ethics statement when applicable.

6. Reporting checklist

CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE or other relevant checklist when applicable.

Supplementary files should be submitted separately only when they add material that is not essential to understand the main results.

Methods should report, as appropriate: design, setting, participants, variables/outcomes, data sources, bias, sample size, statistical methods, ethics and registration.

References

References must follow Vancouver style and be numbered in order of first appearance. The same source keeps the same number throughout the manuscript. Journal titles should use standard NLM abbreviations when available. Include DOI when available.

Examples in text: [1], [2,3], [4–7].

The reference list should be double-spaced and use a 1.27 cm hanging indent.

Tables and figures

  • Place tables and figures inside the main manuscript, near their first citation, for initial review.
  • Tables must be editable—not screenshots. Avoid vertical rules and unnecessary styling.
  • Table title above; notes and abbreviations below.
  • Figure legends below the figure.
  • After acceptance, the editorial office may request separate high-resolution figure files.

Supplementary material

Submit supplementary material as a separate file. Use clear labels such as Supplementary Methods, Table S1, Figure S1 and Supplementary References. All supplementary items must be cited from the main manuscript.

Essential methods, primary outcome data and information required to understand the main conclusions should not be moved to the supplement.

Declarations required in the manuscript

  • Ethics approval and consent to participate
  • Consent for publication
  • Trial or study registration, when applicable
  • Availability of data and materials
  • Competing interests
  • Funding
  • Authors’ contributions
  • Acknowledgements
  • Use of artificial intelligence-assisted technologies

Use “Not applicable” or “None” when appropriate rather than omitting the heading.

Authorship and contributions

Authorship should follow the current ICMJE recommendations. Contributions should be described using the CRediT taxonomy whenever feasible.
